Brewing Update

Just a recap what happened over Sunday's brew class. I gave a presentation on the basics of homebrewing, and threw in some history about the brewing history in America and in Japan. I'm so glad that it was well received and plan on doing another in the coming weeks covering bottling, and the mini-mash method which will open anyone new to homebrewing to a much greater level of beer customization. That's where it starts to get fun. I'm looking forward to seeing everyone again! Cheers!

Workshop

First off, all 5 gallons will be divvied up among all the hackers. So, join up and claim your ration! Ever wanted to learn how to make some delicious homebrew? Now you can! Your local hackerspace will be hosting its first ever brew class which will educate you about the history of brewing in Japan and America, and will even show you first hand on how to brew your own beer! Class two is in 3 weeks following this and there will be a lesson in bottling. You'll even get to drink some homebrew made by the brewmeister himself. Here's where I'm going to get serious. Here's the lesson layout.

How to make a B.L.T.H.S.

I had a craving.

A craving for a BLT.

But not just ANY old BLT.

A BLTHS!

First step, gather ingredients.
Obviously, I need bread, tomato, lettuce, and some nice crispy bacon.
Some of these items are easy to quest for. Others not so.

Lets take a look, one by one:
Tomato - I went to the local market for a big juicy tomato
Bread - Again, the local market provided

Cupcakes 1

As part of KitchenHacks, I experimented with baking cupcakes for the HackerSpace Cupcake Challenge. This was done on 1/15, before the Hackathon (thank goodness!)

The idea was to give something Japan-related, so I thought I would make "matcha" (green tea) flavored cupcakes.

All we had at the Hackerspace were actual tea leaves, so first I brewed a strong cup.
